Nordland
The cargo vessel Nordland ran aground at Prasonisi, just outside Diakofti, in northern Kythira, on August 29, 2000.
According to local community, the crew is rumored to have paid more attention to alcohol than to the ship’s navigation systems on that day—an error that led to the vessel’s dramatic grounding.
Today, the Nordland lies in a striking position: semi-submerged, with its stern resting at a depth of around 30 meters, while its bow remains above the surface. This unusual posture creates a visually impressive and technically interesting wreck.
The Nordland shipwreck offers an exceptional dive experience and is recommended exclusively for advanced-level divers (Advanced Open Water Divers). Strong conditions, depth, and the wreck’s structure make it a thrilling exploration for experienced divers seeking a powerful mix of adventure and maritime history.
