Open Water Diver Certification
The PADI Open Water Diver certification is the first step to becoming an independent scuba diver. It is the world’s most popular and internationally recognized scuba diving certification.
As a certified Open Water Diver, you will be able to dive anywhere in the world, together with your dive buddy, to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
Children can begin their diving education and earn their first certification—the Junior Open Water Diver—from the age of 10. For ages 10–11, the maximum diving depth is 12 meters.
How Do I Become a Certified Diver?
The Open Water Diver course consists of three main steps:
1. Theory
The theory covers the fundamental principles and concepts of scuba diving that are essential for both safety and enjoyment.
Theoretical training can be completed through Open Water e-Learning, allowing flexibility and self-paced study..
2. Confined Water Training
In confined waters, you will learn and practice essential diving skills. You will be trained in equipment use, underwater techniques, and how to manage and solve common diving situations—both at the surface and underwater.
3. Open Water Dives
During the open water dives, you will apply everything you have learned in a real marine environment, under the supervision of your instructor.
